Genesis sought $1B emergency loan but never got it

Crypto lender Genesis sought retired an exigency indebtedness of $1 cardinal from investors successful the aftermath of FTX’s illness and ensuing bankruptcy but ne'er got the funds it requested, The Wall Street Journal reported Nov. 17.

The indebtedness petition came earlier the institution sent retired a notification to clients earlier this week that it would be suspending redemptions.

Citing a  papers it reviewed, the WSJ noted that Genesis sought the funds by Nov. 14 due to the fact that of a “liquidity crunch owed to definite illiquid assets connected its equilibrium sheet.”

The papers reportedly explained an “ongoing tally connected deposits driven chiefly by retail programs and partners of Genesis (i.e., Gemini Earn) and organization clients investigating liquidity.”

A Genesis spokeswoman told the Journal that the confidential papers was nary longer existent and noted that the institution is having “very affirmative conversations” with imaginable investors to recoup liquidity.

Genesis announced  Nov. 16 that its crypto-lending portion was halting each lawsuit withdrawals.
